About Waterloo
The Waterloo scene has been bluesin' and swingin' for years and years thanks to our primary instructors Jeff & Kristen. Their focus on connection and body mechanics, the social side of social dancing and their deep love for the blues has created a friendly, relaxed, welcoming scene that loves to party.Waterloo has been dancing and inviting top name instructors for many years, and (thanks to folks like you) hosted a wildly successful, first exchange in 2006 (the Waterloo Blues Junkie Exchange). Smaller events and parties occur every few months and often attract
honorary waterlooviansfrom as far away as Ottawa, Rochester and Windsor.
Dance-wise, we like blues, lindy, west coast and balboa, with a healthy dose of silly and the occasional floorial (if we're feeling special). We're really excited to share our scene with you and looking forward to dancing with you at MezzJelly Waterloo!
Waterloo Tips
We'll have this stuff in your welcome package, but for interest's sake here you go:Good places to eat:
One of the best things about traveling is that you get to try different foods. Whether that means cooking with your fellow dancers or eating out is up to you. Here are some of our favourite places to eat:
- Pho Ben Thanh Thai-Viet Restaurant -- Huge selection of tasty foods. Go with a group so you can order a few things and share.
- Morty's -- (arguably) The best wings in town.
- Mongolian Grill -- All you can eat stir fry. You select the raw materials and watch the cooks fry it up on a giant disk.
- Cora's -- Great breakfast, outside of Waterloo, but worth stopping at on the way out (or in).
- Ye's -- All you can eat sushi.
- Mr. Sushi -- Not all you can eat, but good (by Waterloo standards) and more than enough.
- Jane Bond -- A chill vegetarian joint.
- Ennio's -- Tasty Italian.
- Zen Garden -- Great vegetarian but a bit pricey.
- Lotus Tea House -- One of the best restaurants in Waterloo! Affordable, vegetarian, and has student discounts.
- Crystal Palace -- A decent Chinese restaurant in Uptown Waterloo.
Need Coffee?
- Tim Horton's -- The first time you try it you'll think "what's all the hype about?", but there's something in there that will make you crave it fort-nightly...or whenever you can get it. Seriously, people's attraction to Tim's Coffee is a strange phenomena.
- Starbuck's -- Yup, SB invaded Canada, but there are only 5 shops we know of in Kitchener-Waterloo; compared to Tim Horton's, which has like 2 shops per capita.
Shopping / Incidentals:
- Farmers Market on Saturday morning -- Maybe you can go after the late night. They make apple fritters, with real apple slices, right before your eyes!!!
- Sobey's -- open 24hrs for groceries.
- Generally speaking, stores close surprisingly early (6pm) in our fair city. So, if you need something, get it before going to class or just after...and if all else fails, we have 24hr Walmarts.
