The very first Capital Blues in Washington DC EVER was started in 2005 by MezzJelly and DC locals. It is now a yearly event run by the newly created Capital Blues Organization which was born out of this event. MezzJelly is proud to see our goal of encouraging dance and music have such an awesome effect in DC!

In America circa 2004, there had only ever been two Blues Exchanges – first came Cheap Thrills in St. Loius, MO and then second came the MezzJelly Blues Weekend in Pittsburgh, PA. House parties, over-the-top classes, and a hell of a lot of fun blues dancing set the tone for all future mezzJelly events.

Sometime between 2001 to 2004
This special dance event was a challenge between Pittsburgh and Detroit in a throw-down, no-holds barred “dance off” featuring a live band (Solomon Douglas’s newly formed Big Band), giant inflatable whales, foot-long salami, whipped cream, and general insanity. We met on neutral ground (Cleveland, OH) and all 3 cities have never been the same since…

1999 through 2004
Starting out over 10 years ago, MezzJelly hosted dance events with live bands and national DJs, offered free dance collaboration classes, hosted swing and blues contests for cash prizes, performed at the Pittsburgh Steelers facility and other events, plus a ton more stuff to help show dance and music is something you feel, an artistic expression of fun times.
